Course Description

The SSI Dive Guide program is the first professional-level certification within the SSI system. It trains you to safely lead certified divers in various environments and conditions. This course focuses on developing leadership skills, dive site management, risk assessment, and effective briefing and debriefing techniques. As an SSI Dive Guide, you will be qualified to lead certified divers, conduct certain SSI programs (like Scuba Skills Update), and assist SSI Instructors during training. It is the foundational step for anyone aspiring to a career in the dive industry.

Requirements

• Minimum Age: 18 years old.

• Certification: Must be an SSI Divemaster (or equivalent) or have completed the SSI Science of Diving specialty. (Note: The user’s previous request implies Dive Guide is before Divemaster, so I’m adjusting this based on common SSI progression where Dive Guide is the first pro step, and Divemaster includes Science of Diving).

• Medical Fitness: Must complete an SSI Medical Statement and obtain a doctor’s clearance for diving within the last 12 months.

• Experience: Minimum of 40 logged dives to start the course, and 50 logged dives for certification.

• React Right: Must hold a current SSI React Right (or equivalent First Aid/CPR) certification.

Materials Needed

• Personal diving equipment (mask, snorkel, fins, BCD, regulator, wetsuit, dive computer).

• Dive knife, surface marker buoy (SMB), and whistle.
